Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
At Enlight Psychological & Assessment Services, we know that seeking psychological and educational evaluations or consultation can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the process as smooth and supportive as possible. Below are answers to some of the most common questions families, schools, and professionals ask.
How do free consultations work?
When you reach out, we’ll schedule a brief phone or virtual consultation at no cost. This call is not a clinical session but rather an opportunity to share your concerns, ask questions, and learn more about our services. Together, we’ll decide whether an evaluation, workshop, or consultation is the right next step.
What happens after I send a message through the contact form?
You’ll receive an automatic confirmation email right away. Within 1–2 business days, we’ll follow up to schedule your free consultation or provide additional information. For your security, please do not include sensitive or confidential health details in your message, those will be discussed in a secure consultation.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
In compliance with the No Surprises Act, all uninsured or self-pay clients will receive a written Good Faith Estimate (GFE) before scheduling. This outlines the anticipated costs of services so families have clear, upfront information about fees.
Do you work with both families and schools?
Yes.
Families: We partner with parents / caregivers and provide comprehensive psychological and educational evaluations, advocacy related to special education and 504 process, and parent workshops.
Schools: We partner with public, private, and charter schools to provide contracted psychoeducational assessment services, consultation, and professional development workshops.
Is my information private?
Absolutely. We follow HIPAA, NC Psychology Board standards, and APA ethical guidelines to ensure confidentiality. Records are maintained in compliance with HIPAA. Please avoid sharing sensitive information in messages; we’ll securely discuss those details during your consultation or scheduled sessions.
What should I expect during an evaluation?
Our evaluations are designed to be thorough, collaborative, and supportive. Below is what you can typically expect if you choose to move forward.
Step 1 — Free Consultation: We begin with a complimentary phone or virtual consultation to discuss your concerns and determine together whether an evaluation, workshop, or consultation is the right next step. Before scheduling any services, families receive a written Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of anticipated costs. Informed consent and any required release/authorization forms are reviewed and signed prior to beginning services.
Step 2 — Intake & Background Information: If you decide to proceed, we collect background information via parent interview, intake forms, parent/teacher questionnaires, and (with permission) relevant school or medical records. This helps us tailor the assessment to your child’s needs. All records and communications are handled securely and in accordance with privacy practices.
Step 3 — Assessment (Testing): The assessment battery is individualized to address the referral questions. We use standardized measures, interviews, and observations as appropriate. Testing sessions are scheduled with attention to the child’s stamina and comfort; most children complete testing across one or more sessions. All testing is conducted in person.
Step 4 — Scoring, Integration & Report Writing: We score and integrate test results with background information and input from parents/teachers, then prepare a clear, written report that summarizes findings and offers practical recommendations tailored to the child and school setting.
Step 5 — Feedback Session: We review results in a feedback session (in person or virtually), explain findings in plain language, highlight strengths and needs, and discuss school-ready recommendations and next steps. With family permission, we can also share results with school personnel or attend planning meetings as requested.
Step 6 — Ongoing Support: Our work may continue beyond the report. We provide parent advocacy for IEP/504 processes, parent and teacher workshops, school consultation to implement recommendations, and referrals as needed. Additional services (e.g., meeting attendance, extended advocacy) may involve extra fees, which will be discussed in advance.
What areas do you evaluate?
We provide assessments across multiple domains, including:
Cognitive / Intellectual testing
Educational evaluation, academic achievement and learning disabilities
Attention and executive functioning skills (including ADHD, planning, organization, and self-regulation)
Behavioral and emotional needs (including adjustment, anxiety, and mood)
Social skills and peer relationships
Autism spectrum evaluations
Gifted and talented evaluations and early entry to kindergarten readiness
Do you evaluate for giftedness or early entry to kindergarten?
Yes. We conduct evaluations to identify readiness for advanced academic placement and giftedness. If your child shows advanced abilities, a gifted evaluation can assist in collecting information for eligibility in the academically or intellectually gifted (AIG) programs in North Carolina. For families pursuing early entry to kindergarten, our assessments meet the NC DPI requirement of an aptitude and achievement testing.
Do you provide autism evaluations?
Yes. Our evaluations for autism-related characteristics include a combination of developmental history, parent/teacher questionnaires, direct testing / assessment, and behavioral observation. We use standardized tools and follow best-practice guidelines to provide a comprehensive assessment.
Do you evaluate for ADHD and learning disabilities?
Yes. Our evaluations for ADHD and learning disabilities are tailored to each child’s unique needs and concerns. We use standardized assessments and gather input from parents, teachers, and school records to develop a comprehensive understanding of a child’s strengths, attention-related challenges, and academic needs that may be affecting learning and daily functioning. Based on the results, we provide practical, school-ready recommendations to support classroom accommodations as well as strategies for home.
How long does an evaluation take?
The full evaluation process typically spans 2 – 4 weeks from intake to feedback, depending on the type of evaluation, testing length, and scheduling availability. Direct testing sessions usually last 2 – 5 hours, often split into shorter sessions to support a child’s stamina, attention levels and comfort.
Do you offer in-person or virtual services?
Yes! All psychological and educational testing is conducted in-person at our office. Intake and feedback meetings are held in-person or virtually, depending on what works best for your family.
Do you collaborate with schools and attend IEP/504 meetings?
Yes. With parent permission, we collaborate with schools to share evaluation results and recommendations. We are also available to attend IEP or 504 meetings to help parents navigate the process and advocate for their child’s needs.
Do you provide therapy or ongoing treatment?
No. We specialize in evaluations, consultation, and workshops. If therapy is recommended, we provide tailored referral resources to connect families with providers who may meet their needs.
What are your fees and payment options?
Because every evaluation is individualized, fees vary depending on the type and scope of assessment. Our hourly rate is $125, and a typical comprehensive psychological evaluation generally ranges from $1,200–$1,800, depending on the complexity and areas assessed.
During your consultation, we’ll provide a personalized Good Faith Estimate so you know exactly what to expect before scheduling. Please note that informed consent is obtained before services begin.
Payment is due at the time of service. At this time, we are self-pay only. For families seeking out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill, a detailed, itemized receipt including CPT codes, that can be submitted to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. We encourage you to check with your insurance company regarding coverage for psychological testing.
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, services are self-pay only and we are an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. For families using out-of-network benefits, superbills (detailed documentation you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement) are provided upon request. We encourage you to check with your insurance company regarding coverage for psychological testing.
